Go down the slopes in complete safety

Are you new to skiing? If yes, you must know the basics of skiing to enjoy yourself and protect yourself from unnecessary injuries. Safety must always be your priority while doing any outdoor activity.

Skiing requires protection because injuries caused on slopes are more likely to heal slowly. Here are the few basic safety measures that you can take to protect yourself during skiing down the slopes:

Wear the right clothing

The right clothes will keep you warm and provide an extra layer of security from any unnecessary injuries. You must have ski jackets to keep you warm from the freezing temperature on skiing spots.

You can also consider wearing layers of clothes to stay warm and safe while going down the slopes.

Choose the right ski and boot fit

Ski and boot fitting is essential to ensure your safety while skiing. Therefore, take your time to choose the best fitting ski and boot set. Your feet must be comfortable to maintain balance while skiing. So, ensure you have the right ski and boot fit.

Be Aware of surroundings

The goal is not only to keep you safe while going down the slopes but also the others around you. Therefore, maintain a suitable space with others to ski down the slopes without hurting or bumping into others.

Climbing up or down on foot

People are often so excited to ski that they don’t hurry to move to the side after reaching the bottom of the slope. It may cause the person behind you to bump into you. This will ultimately lead to injuries.

So, quickly remove your skis, hold them tightly and move to the side when you reach the end of the slope. It will ensure not only your safety but also of the skiers passing by!

Stay hydrated

Skiing is undoubtedly an exciting activity, but it requires complete focus to maintain balance on slopes. Therefore, drink lots of water to stay hydrated. And strictly avoid any alcoholic drinks.

Know your limits

Don’t overburden yourself for just a few more hours of excitement. Stop skiing when you feel fatigued and can’t focus anymore. Your body should be energized to stay safe while going down the slopes. Once you reach the bottom of your energy limit, take some rest.

Do a warmup

Before you start skiing, you must exercise to warm up your body. It is necessary to protect your body from severe injuries. A few minutes of the downhill run will be more than enough for warm up.

Follow FIS Rules

You must know FIS rules before going to ski. A few of the FIS rules are:

  • Respect your fellow skiers
  • Control the speed and style of skiing
  • Avoid overtaking
  • Stopping when required
  • Respecting the signs and restrictions of the area
  • Assist fellow incompetent skiers

Safety comes first!

Safety is the priority even while enjoying vacations. If you are going on a ski trip soon, ensure that you abide by the FIS rules to stay safe and enjoy yourself to the fullest.
