The morning I woke up to our family dog laying on the floor unresponsive, was probably the most heartbreaking day of my life. A million emotions flooded me while my mind ran raced trying to find the words to tell our children.
Yoda was our family dog, a goldendoodle; we got her a few years before our first child. She has been there for us through the thick of it all. I never realized how much I scheduled my day around her. Getting up early to let her go outside, cooking her meals (no gross dry mix for our pooch) walks and evening catch.
The kids were going to be up soon and expecting to see her before school. We always walked the kids to school together…
The Goldendoodle Days
My husband has allergies, so when we bought our first dog, we made sure to find a breed that was hypoallergenic. Doodles seemed to be high on all the lists of hypoallergenic dogs.
We also wanted a kid friendly pooch as we were planning on trying for a baby soon. After 2 years of only having a fur baby we brought our oldest child into the mix.
Yoda was an amazing pet. She was tentative, calm, loveable and just the best. I think she may have made having a baby easier. Preparing us for the routines and selflessness that comes along with having a dependant.
Go forward 8 more years and we now have 3 kids and 1 fur baby. We were crazy and had our kids back-to-back so the oldest is 8 and the youngest is 4.
Yoda just loves being surrounded by giggles and cuddles. His dog bed had become a full queen-sized mattress on the living room floor just so the kids could snuggle with her during movies.
That school day was a hard one for them and us. We didn’t send them and instead we did a ceremony and buried her. We knew she wasn’t doing well, old age and health issues. It was an inevitable doomsday.
Finding the Perfect Doodle Kennel
We spent about a month grieving our Yoda. And during that time, we realized pretty quickly that our kids needed a new furry friend to keep them in good spirits. They loved the routine too.
Having allergies in the house we agreed that a breed mixed with a Poodle was a must again. Also, we wanted to make sure our new pup was going to be coming from an ethical, social Goldendoodle kennel.
Southwestern Ontario has so many options out there for dog kennels. We made sure that the doodle kennel has policies and guarantees for their pups. That is something to keep in mind when searching for a kennel yourself. If a kennel has those things, they are legit. We also read the social media comments and reviews to the kennel.
We went with a local-ish Bernedoodle and Golden Doodle kennel in Norwich Ontario.
Picking Out Our Doodle
The kids were ecstatic about our new puppy we were going to pick out. When we arrived, the farm had the best vibes, family orientated and open space. All the dogs looked super happy and healthy.
Our kids ran to the puppies and didn’t hesitate snuggling them up. It was such a relief to see that all the dogs and puppies weren’t startled by the kids running and petting them. That showed us that we definitely chose the right bernedoodle and golden doodle kennel.
After the family chose which puppy we were going to add to the family they tried endlessly to get one for each of them… Of course. LOL
Thankfully dad was there to crush their dreams so I didn’t have to. Our puppy wasn’t quite ready to take home yet, so we filled out the paperwork and noticed a list of demands from the kennel.
The policy was adamant that we follow a strict list of criteria to keep our puppy. We had to buy certain dog food, provide pre and post probiotics daily, a specific vitamin daily as well as a tsp of healthy fat. I was over pleased with the follow through expected for these puppies.
Goldendoodle Kennel Home Time
The day had finally arrived, we were getting to pick up our little fur ball. During the couple weeks of waiting, we had received multiple photos of our new family member from the kennel. We also were able to visit 2 times with the kids to keep the bond growing.
While we were waiting for this day the kids had us buy all new gear and toys. A new dog bed, leash, food and water bowls and spiffy collar. They were more excited about our new golden doodle puppy than Christmas!
Our new family member was all set up in the car with a cozy blanket! I couldn’t contain my own excitement, with tears of joy and sadness. I was over the moon about our new journey with our new golden doodle, but it did make me stir up some old feelings about Yoda.
When we got home, we showed our pup the backyard. While the kids were rolling around with him I asked, “Have we decided on the name?”
Grogu. My kids may be the coolest kids in the world. And that they used “baby Yoda” as the name for our new puppy made my heart so warm. Such a fitting name for our second fur baby.
My Thoughts?
I definitely recommend using a Teddy Bear Kennels in Norwich, Ontario for your next family fur baby bernedoodle or goldendoodle. We haven’t had a single issue with our Grogu. He blended into the family so easily, with no hesitance to the kids.
The goldendoodle kennel we chose had amazing family values and high quality doodles that are socialized for families with children.
Grogu was exactly what our family needed after the passing of our Yoda. And I’m so thankful that the kids will have a new best friend to grow up with. And hopefully clean up after as well….
