Best MC Helmets for Large Heads

No matter where you live, how experienced you are, or how much you ride, you must wear a motorcycle helmet every time you hop onto your bike. You must also purchase the right size and fit of helmet to ensure it’s comfortable and effective.

For people with larger heads, this is often easier said than done. Finding large motorcycle helmets can be challenging, but it’s an important aspect of protecting yourself while riding. Here are a few tips to help you find the best helmet on the market.

How to Break in Your New Motorcycle Helmet

Before you can effectively break in your helmet, you must choose the right size and shape for your head. Have a friend help you measure the widest part of your head, which is above your eyebrows and around to the back. You can compare this figure to helmet sizing charts.

Heads fall into three shapes generally: round oval, intermediate oval, and long oval. While your friend is measuring your head size, have them snap a picture of the top of your head. This will give you a good idea of your head shape.

Once you have your correctly-sized helmet, you’ll need to break it in. All helmets feel a bit uncomfortable until they conform to your face and head. You can speed up this process by wearing the new helmet as much as you can for a few days before actually riding with it. It can take up to 20 hours to break in the helmet as much as 20%. The more you wear it after buying it, the faster it will feel comfortable.

Motorcycle Helmet Upgrades Worth the Money

While comfort and fit are crucial when choosing a helmet for a larger head, there are additional features you can use to improve your experience. Lots of riders invest in Bluetooth headsets that fit right into the helmet. This is perfect when riding cross-country in groups, so you can always stay in touch with the pack.

If you often take a GoPro along for the ride, consider a chin bar mount. This is a wearable strap that allows you to affix your camera for the best possible views. It’s also a great addition in case you’re involved in an accident caused by another driver. With a chin strap mounted camera, you have photographic proof of what really occurred.

Additionally, ATV riders prefer side by side helmets because they allow them to hear riders next to them easily. This is an essential safety feature when riding in groups.

Is wind an issue where you ride? If so, a wind skirt is a great addition to virtually any helmet. Not only does it prevent drafty winds from getting inside, it also keeps your head warm when riding in colder weather. On the other hand, snap-on helmet air conditioning is a must when riding in hot weather in high-traffic areas.

Whether you are looking for conventional models or ATV helmets online, knowing what you’re looking for is crucial to making the proper selection. Be choosy when shopping and know that a quality helmet is an investment in safety on the road.
