Senior Dogs – How To Go The Extra Mile With Canine Care

Having a dog is the most incredible thing. These adorable pets know everything about you, follow your moods, and give you company whenever you need them. But they age like human beings and can face severe health challenges and problems. As an owner, it is vital to support your pet during these challenging years. Do you know how to ensure your aging pet grows into a happy and healthy senior dog? If not, here are some ways you can go the extra mile with senior canine care.

Increase in the frequency of vet visits

Regular vet visits are essential for dog owners. But you will have to schedule more frequent checks for an aging canine. Like the older family members, they also need regular visits to the doctor to keep health in check. Moreover, ensure to get their blood tests, dental care, and examinations done on time. Early detection of the disease can help them overcome many difficulties in the long haul.

Watch your pet’s diet

The most important thing you can check upon is your aging pet’s diet. Mature dogs are more likely to have food allergies, obesity, digestive problems, and more. Consult your vet for the best diet plan for an aging pet. You can consider giving supplements such as fish oil that can help overcome arthritis and mobility issues. You can also think about increasing fiber to help improve digestion.

Try CBD for joint pains

Joint pains can be the most common problem that can arise in older dogs. The pain can make it difficult for your pet to walk and play at some stage. CBD is the best option for natural pain relief for dogs as it is safe and effective. You can use it consistently without worrying about side effects. The best part is that CBD wouldn’t get your dog high because it is non-psychoactive.

Exercise is the best remedy

Like older people, dogs can also face issues with physical activity. However, regular exercise is vital to keep your pet’s health in check. You can take your canine companion for a gentle walk and monitor its breathing and gait patterns. Indoor activities make a good idea as they minimize the risk of injuries. Moreover, you can get food puzzles that can help it remain sharp by stimulating its senses.

Pay attention or observe

Keeping an eye on the dog’s activities and behaviors can keep their health in check. You must monitor changes such as loss of appetite, weight loss or gain, dental issues, mobility problems, and more. By doing so, you can detect the issues on time and overcome any severe illness with timely action. If you see a difference in its mood or health, contact the vet at the earliest.

Taking care of senior dogs involves a little effort, but it is absolutely worthwhile. Make sure they do not face health issues in the future. Cuddle them, care for them, and give them immense love during the last years of its life. They only want your love and care to remain healthy and happy.
