Many top sports stars own cute cats or dogs. However, others have decided that they prefer to spend their free time hanging out with more unusual pets. You may remember that Mike Tyson famously spent a fortune on white Siberian tigers. Well, these stars have found other animals that they enjoy just as much.
Gilbert Arenas Spends a Fortune on Sharks
How much money does it take to look after a tank filled with sharks? The answer was revealed in a court battle when we found out that Arenas spends $6,000 on his pets every month. This shark-loving player started his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors before playing for several other teams in a long and sometimes controversial career.
His love for sharks appeared to boil over on a blog post where claimed that there is no such thing as shark attacks on humans. He said that it is trespassing when someone enters the water where sharks live.
Visanthe Shiancoe Has a Couple of Ferrets
Shiancoe played as a tight end in the NFL for teams like the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings. He retired in 2013 and it seems safe to say that he probably enjoys spending a lot more time with his faithful ferrets now.
The ex-player has posted images online of his cool little ferrets, who are called Gee and Smoke. They play inside a three-story cage at lot of the time, but Shiancoe said that when he lets them out they cause mayhem by knocking over plants and digging wildly.
Carmelo Anthony Tweeted That He Has a Camel
Back in 2011, Portland Trail Blazers player Carmelo Anthony tweeted an image of himself with a camel. He claimed that “Everybody got dogs and cats as pets, I got a camel!” It isn’t clear where his pet lives or whether it was all just a joke in the first place. Anthony and his camel haven’t been seen together since that original tweet. It is likely that he might have only sponsored an animal, which some celebrities do, ensuring the animals live in the current habitat but they are well fed and treated.
Camels can live up to 50 years of age, so we hope that it is well looked after somewhere safe and that they get to spend more time together once he retires from the game. You are sure to think of this camel the next time you see Anthony’s team listed on an NBA betting line.
Chad Ochocinco Loves Tropical Fish
Chad Johnson is best-known as Chad Ochocinco now. He forged an impressive career in the NFL as a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and Miami Dolphins. After his appearance in Super Bowl XLVI he played briefly in Canada and Mexico before seemingly turning to coaching.
To help him relax away from the field, Ochocinco loves watching tropical fish. This passion came to light when pictures of the amazing arched fish tank over his bed were published. It was in the Florida home he shared with ex-partner Evelyn Lozada, so it isn’t clear who kept the fish after their divorce.
Darnell Dockett Owned a Baby Tiger and an Alligator
This NFL star is no stranger to dangerous and exotic pets. Dockett once said that he tried to liven up a training camp by taking along a baby tiger. He then published photos online of an alligator named Honey that he claimed to have bought.
Dockett spent 10 years as a defensive end for the Arizona Cardinals after having played for Florida State University in his college years. He retired in 2016 and the truth is that some people think he might have been making up the stories about his exotic pets.
