4 Puppy Training Tips for New Dog Owners

There’s nothing more heartwarming than getting a new puppy for the family, but puppies can be challenging when it comes to training. And when you’re a new dog owner, it can be tricky to know how to handle the situation.

We’re here to help. Keep reading to learn the new puppy training tips to help you grow with your new companion.

1. The Fundamentals of Puppy Training

You’ll want to start with the basics. This means teaching your puppy things like sit, stay, come, down, and leave it. These commands will be the foundation for everything else you teach them, so getting them down early is essential.

You also need to be patient and consistent. Puppies are still learning and growing, so they won’t always get things right the first time.

If you’re consistent in your training, they’ll eventually catch on. And remember to praise and reward them when they do something good!

2. Crate Training

It is essential to choose the correct crate size. Your puppy should be able to stand up, turn around and lie down comfortably. However, it should not be too big for your puppy may use the other end as a bathroom.

Put the crate where the puppy can see you and other family members feel more comfortable. Start with short periods and gradually increase as your puppy becomes more comfortable.

Putting toys and feeding your puppy inside its crate will also help the crate training process. Be sure never to use the crate as punishment so your puppy will not associate it with negative feelings.

3. Potty Training

In puppy potty training, establishing a schedule is the most important thing. Dogs are habitual creatures and will quickly learn to go simultaneously if you are consistent.

Once it’s time to go potty, put your puppy on a leash and take them to the designated bathroom. Be patient and praise your puppy when they do their business at the right spot so that they can associate the spot with positive feelings.

4. Puppy Training Tips for Socialization

The best time to socialize your puppy is between 8 and 16 weeks. You can socialize your puppy efficiently by introducing them to people, animals, and situations in different environments. Remember to reward your puppy whenever it does something positive to reinforce that behavior.

Suppose you’re finding puppy socialization to be complicated. You can enroll them in a dog socialization class. This will help them interact with other dogs in the presence of professional trainers in a controlled setting.

Puppy Training Benefits

Puppy training is an essential part of owning a new dog. There are many benefits to training new dog, including obedience, behavior modification, and bonding.

It will also make it easier for you to care for your puppy if it isn’t as skittish. You could notice some abnormalities such as dog eyes cloudy or skin that seems irritated.
